Word has reached us here at GeekCrew HQ that Jon Favreau is creating a new Star Wars TV show, which is to be launched on the new Disney streaming service, which is launching next year. Many Bothans died to bring us this information. Well, not really, we just read it on Twitter this morning.
Favreau played a major role in launching the MCU (he directed Iron Man) and is now directing a live action version of The Lion King having already directed the live action Jungle Book movie that came out a few years ago. He seems to have Disney’s trust to deliver high quality stuff so let’s hope he can do a good job with Star Wars. I’m hoping for something a bit more “grown up” in terms of tone. Not as dark and hard hitting as the Marvel stuff on Netflix but I’d love to see what they could do with more adult themes.
Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm President clearly has faith in the man. She said of her appointment “I couldn’t be more excited about Jon coming on board to produce and write for the new direct-to-consumer platform, Jon brings the perfect mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe. This series will allow Jon the chance to work with a diverse group of writers and directors and give Lucasfilm the opportunity to build a robust talent base.”
More news when we get it. May the force be with you!
